Eventually the church lost all law suits. A plan to tear the church down, and to sell the empty lot for development was stopped when the group was denied a demolition permit due to its historical nature. After losing the appeal to the Iowa Supreme Court, the church property was sold to a local investor for $575,000.

An extensive effort was made by the Sherman Hill Neighborhood Association and the Des Moines Rehabbers Club to save the Kingsway Cathedral from the wrecking ball.

In April 2009, Pastors Kenney and Neja Linhart met with Jack Porter and the Sherman Hill Neighborhood Association inquiring about the status of the church at 19th and Crocker.
